\nI went through the TEKS and underlined anything that I thought we could eliminate. Just a thought. Dr. M. provided a child friendly list poem rubric that could be adapted for the insect investigation. Take a look at it and see if you can adapt for our lesson plan.
\nThat's all I can think of right now. I'll take a closer look at everything tomorrow. We should be just about finished after these changes and once you put the info on the LP template we should be ready to ask for some feedback as per 4.1

\nIf you could find the current TEKS for grade one for this project that would be wonderful! I am not sure about those at all. Also, can you confirm the AASL standards that I used? I didn't use the Empowering learners- just the In Action book. I went back and checked the schedule you made and I think it is fine. I posted some of those dates on the planning form as well, so we should be in good shape. We are actually ahead of schedule but Dr. M. knows about my circumstances next so I think it we are in very good shape.

\nCreating a rubric based on the documents I uploaded sounds like a fine plan. Let me know if you have any questions. The only form I'm unsure about is the Questioning form (5A). I think it is good to use for the "research" portion of the assignment. But where to put that student form is anyone's guess...

\nOne more consideration regarding the websites and books used with students. Do we have to list all of those resources? I'll have to do some checking around and I do have a site I can use to find both so it shouldn't be too difficult. But I don't want to do it if I don't have to. Guess I should post this question to Dr. M. I'll post that question today.

\nFinally, I added some extension ideas to the lesson plan template- These are things I have done in the past and really, I was just brainstorming. If it is too much we can delete some- please don't think that all of my ideas are the best. I'm just trying to complete as much as I can before next week. Once we submit this part on Friday, I'll put the project in your lap for the week of Nov. 15-20. Thanks! And don't worry about the workload. I'm in a situation that allows me to focus wholly on this project- for the time being.

\nI have added to the scenario and collaborative planning page, the rubric, and the lesson template. The schedule for planning looks great. I've saved it on my desktop. \nThere is still a couple of things I am confused about on the Rubric. On part 2 of the rubric it says we have to include S4L objectives. I am not sure what that is, do you know? And, is the Matrix (5A) that we included for students the Graphic Organizer that we have to have (stated on the rubric part 2)? I just wanted to clarify those.

\nOne more thing, one of us has to turn in the Rubric and the other turns in the URL for the Planning Form. Which would you like to do? And do we both need to answer the questions on the Rubric part 1? Sorry I know I have a lot of questions! I will be at work from 11am to 8pm, but I will be available by email.

\nI thought we could could use the 5A Questioning category matrix (graphic organizer) for an emerging RCS lesson provided by Dr. M. It seems child-friendly for children to organize their information from the books they get from the library. But I don't know where we should include it- on the lesson template page?

\nAs far as the rubric is concerned, we might be able to use one (or a combination of some) of the documents I put on the wiki that I've used with students in the past. One helps children write a paragraph- could use it as part of the "script" writing portion of the activity; another is a chart where they can keep info. related to structural body parts, food, habitat, etc. Another is an assessment for them to share what they learned; another is a word list to include insect vocabulary in their writing; and one is a "chart" that can be used at the beginning and at the end of the lesson to indicate what they know and what they learned. These can be changed and\/or edited as needed...
\n
\nI'll post 5A on the collaborative planning page and then you can put it where it belongs. I'll work on this some more today and as much as I can between now and Monday.
\n
\nP.S. I may not be able to do much for this project starting from Mon. the 15th through most of that week. I have to have surgery and will lose that day (Mon. the 15th) altogether, and then recup. for a few days. The surgery is on my upper right arm, and although I should be able to type afterward, I'm not sure what to expect. Using my arm will be an issue and of course, I'm right handed! I have a friend coming to stay with me so she may be able to help me type if I find I can't.

\nOkay, I'm glad we are both "on the same page." I have made a couple of executive decisions so I put the planning form on the wiki and started filling it up according to the "In Action" lesson. I adapted a few things, but it is essentially the same. I also put the lesson plan template on the wiki, but I've not done anything with it yet. Let me know what you think. \n Yes, the scenario is "first graders discover a strange looking insect on the school playground..." I think if we cite the book and lesson we should be fine since there is nothing that I can find which states we are to "reinvent the wheel."

\nAt any rate, using this lesson makes this experience a little less stressful for me since I taught insects in 1st &2nd grade for many years.
\n
\n When you get a chance, take a look at what I've posted on the wiki. If we do this lesson "Insect Investigation" and use the Comprehension strategy 3 "Questioning" we can then use the graphic organizer 5A to encourage students to ask questions throughout their "research."
\n
\n These are just ideas to get us moving. I suppose over the next couple of days we will need to firm up the ideas. I can't really go any farther with this until we agree on the lesson. So I'll wait for your ideas and opinions. Have a good day!

\nI've had some time to figure out this assignment 3.3 and as far as I can tell we simply need to
\n1) choose our rdg. strategy, select a scenario or topic (see 21st century IN ACTION)
\n2) select a planning form and fill parts of it in (I put Dr. M's planning forms on the wiki), and
\n3) fill up the rubric. I put as much as I could manage on the wiki.
\n4) Oh, and then there is the lesson plan template that needs to be filled up in part now and the rest later for 4.2 The rest I think, gets completed in assignment 4.2.

\n I am totally fine with using that lesson about insects. Let's roll with that one. Ready, Set, Go!! I also agree that these lessons can be frustrating!! I can not access the wiki from work because it is restricted on our computers for some reason. But as soon as I get home around 830pm tonight I will get on the wiki. I will read through the lesson while I am here at work (I brought the book with me) and then go over the rubric. I will also start thinking about the scheduling chart she wants us to come up with. I will try to put one together later tonight. Do we have to specify who is going to be the librarian and who is going to be the teacher? If so, which do you want to be? It doesn not matter to me. I am a bit confused about this. Are we supposed to be pretending one of us is a librarian and the other one is a teacher and we are collaborating on this lesson?
